Elmer A. Bertram

            Elmer A. Bertram, 93, Chisholm, died Friday, March 9, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN.  He was born April 11, 1924 to Adolf and Della (Pauley) Bertram in Blackberry Township near Grand Rapids, MN.  He was a graduate of Hibbing High School, attended community college and also St. Thomas.  Elmer proudly served his country for nearly 4 years in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII.  Later, he and his wife owned and Operated Bert’s Store on Highway 5 north of Chisholm for over 30 years.  He also worked in the CCC Camp S-53 at Side Lake, MN, and was a Fire Warden in the area for some time.  Elmer was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing.  His pastimes included duck hunting, fishing, but most of all, his passion was deer hunting. 

            He is survived by his wife Evelyn Bertram, Chisholm, MN, children, Edward (Luisa) Bertram, Sturgeon, MN, Karen (Bradley LaBlanc) Stalker, Hoyt Lakes, MN, and Diane (Robert) Smith, Side Lake, MN, brother, Donald Bertram, Hibbing, MN, and sister, Shirley (Mike) Vlatkovich, Hibbing, MN, six grandchildren, Shawn Bertram, St. Louis Park, MN, Derek Bertram, overseas, Cody Bertram, Side Lake, MN, Lisa M. Rudstrom, Chisholm, MN, Nathan Smith, Hibbing, and Jeremy (Elizabeth) Smith, Side Lake, MN, two great-grandchildren, Odin Rudstrom and Evelyn Smith, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Geraldine Castagneri.

            Funeral services for Elmer will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.  The Rev. Andrew Petter will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
