Delano “Del” Louis Sogard
Del Sogard, 82, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. He was born on January 11. 1936 to Joel and Merle (Harder) Sogard in Hibbing. After graduating from Hibbing High School in 1954, Del proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. After his service in the Marine Corps, Del attended Bemidji State University for two years. He later owned and operated Viking Supply Company in Hibbing. He was a founding member of the Minnesota Trapping Association, a member of the Hibbing Elk’s Lodge, a former Mesabi Country Club Member, and Algonquin Club member. He loved his family, spending time with grandkids, trapping, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sogard, Hibbing, three children, Jennifer (Corey) Janiksela, Bemidji, MN, Vince (Peggy) Sogard, Becker, MN, and Christine (Terry) Johnson, Woodbury, MN, his brother, Ray (Vickie) Sogard, Hibbing, four beloved grandchildren, Michael Sogard, and Julia Sogard, both of Becker, MN, andVince Johnson and Claire Johnson, both of Woodbury, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dennis and Warren Sogard, and his sister, Kathleen Rocchio.
Funeral services for Del will be 11:30am, Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Beau Braun will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:30 Mass at the church on Thursday. A private interment will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
